Med-South, Inc. & Affiliates provides quality care to its patients through a variety of healthcare service offerings that include home/durable medical equipment (DME/HME), diagnostic imaging via positron emission tomography (PET), sleep disorder testing via polysomnographic services, wound care treatment, and management of various chronic disease states. Our Story
1984
Founded in October 1984, Med-South has grown steadily by embracing a strategic model that is highly-differentiated from its competitors.
1988
Only four years after its founding, Med-South acquired Southeastern Medical, Inc. in 1988 and became a statewide organization in Alabama with operations also in Mississippi. In 1990, Med-South received accreditation from the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and has maintained accreditation ever since.
1998
In 1998, Med-South embraced its new strategic plan, emphasizing joint ventures with major hospitals for durable medical equipment (DME) and polysomnographic services (sleep disorder testing).
2004
In August 2004, Med-South opened the doors of a new healthcare enterprise, St. Vincent’s PET Center, which was its first medical diagnostic imaging venture. The center was established in partnership with St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. This was followed by another joint venture with St. Vincent’s East to provide PET scans for cancer patients in Eastern Jefferson County and surrounding areas.
2010
Over several years, Med-South entered into additional joint venture agreements with Jackson Hospital and Clinic, Inc. in Montgomery, Alabama (DME, SLEEP); St. Vincent’s East (DME, PET); St. Vincent’s Hospital (DME, SLEEP , PET) in Birmingham, Alabama; St. Vincent’s St. Clair in Pell City, Alabama (DME); and Mobile Infirmary (DME) with locations in Mobile and Fairhope, Alabama.
2016
In May 2016, Med-South officially embraced a new partnership with The HealthGroup of Alabama (HGA) to provide DME management services to all of its member and affiliate hospitals, including Huntsville Hospital, Marshall Medical Centers, Madison Hospital, Decatur-Morgan Hospitals, Athens-Limestone Hospital, Helen Keller Hospital, Red Bay Hospital, Lawrence Medical Center, and several others.
